Chapter 10

It is Over

“Hey Viv,” Carla called out with a soft knock on the door.

Vivian was getting ready to leave for work already. She still had about two hours before her shift began but she thought she’d take her time in getting her make up done. Her heart-shaped face looked haggard and her eyes were puffy; her once luscious brown hair was in disarray. She was puzzled at how the face of a twenty-three-year-old could change so drastically in a matter of days. She knew she needed to work some magic with make up so she wouldn’t have to answer too many questions about her looks at work. And since no one was expecting her at work, she could afford to spend extra time. No one, and by that she meant her boss Billy, would not have any right to query her for going late to work.

“The door is open,” she called out to Carla. Carla walked into the room looking suspicious. Viv was watching her, trying to figure out what was going on.

“Did you say Sav sent you that message?” she asked without preamble. Viv was almost certain Carla had done something, and she wasn’t sure it was something she would approve of.

“What have you done this time?” Viv asked, clearly tired of going back to the same topic and wanting to get the whole relationship intervention over with.

“Just tell me!” Carla insisted. Viv noted she had a triumphant look like someone who had just cracked a case.

“You read the text, didn’t you? Yes, it came from Sav. What else do you want me to say?” she said offhandedly.

“A-ha!” exclaimed Carla. “The text came from Sav’s number but did she really type that message?”

“Who else has access to Sav’s phone? Are you suggesting Camden sent the message?” Her tone was dripping with sarcasm. Carla must have a really strong spirit, Viv thought, she wasn’t easily broken and under different circumstances, Viv would have really admired and commended her.

“Read the message again. Please…”

Viv had gotten really tired of this, the last thing she wanted to do was reread the message that had shattered her heart. Sav had made it clear, she was getting back with Jacob and that was final. She had said she didn’t want to involve Viv in her mess some days earlier, it made sense now. Although she was heartbroken, she was glad Sav took the time to send her the message and explain to her why she had to leave. It was fine, she would be fine, eventually. But the one thing she didn’t want to do was relive the experience. No, she wasn’t going to do that to herself.

“Drop it, Carla. I love you, you’re my friend and I love how concerned you get when I am not doing well, but you’re over-stepping with this. Drop it, please!” Viv winced as she realized that she just sounded like Evelyn when she told Viv that her relationship with Christina was a private affair and none of Viv’s business.
